MAGGIE HASBROUCK
CONTEMPORARY AMERICAN ARTIST

OF WINGS AND WATER

72x80 inches

Maggie Hasbrouck creates provocative and imaginative images, typically of children. The artist’s photoencaustic paintings are a mix of resins and wax that she applies over a photograph, creating a texture and depth to the work rarely captured by a printed image. Hasbrouck fuses oils, dry pigments, and varnishes into the surface of the wax, causing her pieces to almost glow. Each composition evokes a dreamscape, a precise emotive moment occurring in the imagination. Notes Peter Frank, curator at the Riverside Art Museum in Los Angeles: "As every one of us has been a child - and every one of us has been shaped crucially by our childhood - the presence of children invariably inspires strong sensations, irresistible associations."

Hasbrouck earned her bachelors degree in Fine Art from the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, New Mexico and her Master of Fine Arts degree from the University of Illinois at Champaign, Illinois. She has been an art and photography instructor at the Atlanta College of Art, the Southeastern Center for the Arts in Atlanta, and Illinois State University. Her haunting photo-encaustic works are included in several prominent private collections, including those of Sir Elton John, Jon Bon Jovi, Faith Hill, Courtney Cox Arquette and Dennis Quaid.
